WineAlign's David Lawrason reviews our 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, and Fifteen
We were lucky enough to have wine journalist and principal WineAlign critic, David Lawrason, come try some of our wines. We thought we'd share his kind words!
2015 Fifteen
"This small winery literally sits on the Canada-U.S. border in West Osoyoos. It is crafting some interesting big reds based on cabernet sauvignon and carmenere. This blend included some syrah. They couldn't decide on a name for the wine so settled on simply calling it by its vintage. This full bodied, dense and opaque - one the larger reds made in Canada, but it has considerable poise. Very ripe plummy/blackberry jam fruit is caked with chocolaty, slightly smoky oak and licorice. It is full bodied, dense, fairly firm and tannic, but again well proportioned. The length is excellent. I would age it about three years. Tasted Nov 2018." 91 Points
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon - Sold Out
“Everything about Lariana is boutique – their five acres on the US border in West Osoyoos, their 1,100 case production, and the fact they have made only 90 cases of this delicious cabernet. And it is 100% cabernet, a feat rarely endeavoured in Canada. It is a lovely, rich, elegant and supple wine with very pretty, lifted cassis, florals and finely stitched oak on the nose and palate. Classy, with excellent length. Tasted July 2018.” 93 Points
2015 Carménère - Sold Out
“There is very little late-ripening Carménère growing in Canada's latitudes but at tiny Lariana, metres from the Canada-US border customs facilities in West Osoyoos, it is something of a signature red. And the hot 2015 vintage has helped, creating a rich, structured red with lovely, ripe blackberry and floral notes. No greenness whatsoever. It is full bodied yet quite elegant with fine tannin. Effortless and very engaging with excellent length. Tasted July 2018.” 92 Points
